12. Prognostic and predictive factors in colorectal cancer: The importance of reliable markers for effective selection of therapy

چکیده
In recent years, significant advances have been made in the study of colorectal cancer, (CRC) prognosis and outcome. A better understanding of the molecular basis of this disease, as well as the development of new therapeutic approaches to treat it, has dramatically altered its management. It is essential for physicians to have an effective methodology by which to plan treatment, project prognosis and measure outcome. In this chapter, we discuss predictive and prognostic markers identified in CRC in terms of their utility in assisting the clinician to select the most efficacious and least toxic therapeutic options for each patient. Prognostic Value of C - reactive Protein and Procalcitonin Levels in Predicting Anastomotic Leakage after Colorectal Resection in Mazandaran Province
Background and purpose: Colorectal resection is used for various diseases and leakage in an anastomosis is one of its complications. Some studies confirmed the predictive effects of C-reactive protein (CRP) and procalcitonin markers leakage in anastomosis. This study aimed to investigate the prognostic value of CRP and procalcitonin in predicting anastomotic leakage in elective colorectal surge...
متن کاملIs Bax/Bcl-2 Ratio Considered as a Prognostic Marker with Age and Tumor Location in Colorectal Cancer?
Background: Bax and Bcl-2 are the major members of Bcl-2 family whose play a key role in tumor progression or inhibition of intrinsic apoptotic pathway triggered by mitochondrial dysfunction. Therefore, the balance between pro- and anti-apoptotic members of this family can determine the cellular fate. Methods: In this study, the relative level of mRNA expression of Bax and Bcl-2 genes was deter...
متن کاملHistopathological Evaluation and Analysis of Immunohistochemical Expression of Bcl-2 Oncoprotein in Colorectal Carcinoma
Abstract Introduction: Colorectal cancer is the third most prevalent malignancy with high mortality rate, necessitating markers that predict survival and guide the treatment. Previous studies have examined the immunohistochemical expression of Bcl-2, an apoptotic marker, in colorectal carcinoma, but results have been contradictory. Objectives: To evaluate the histopathological featu...
متن کاملPredictive Factors of Quality of Life in Patients with Colorectal cancer
Introduction: Colorectal cancer is one of the most common invasive cancers, and is ‎responsible for physical and psychosocial morbidity. Therefore, Quality of Life (QOL) is an ‎important outcome for these patients. Although extensive research has examined QOL in ‎patients with colorectal cancer, less research has examined factors that predict QOL. ‎ Objective: The aim o...
متن کاملPrognostic and Predictive Clinical, Pathological and Molecular Markers for Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma: review of articles
Approximately 90% of all head and neck malignancies and 94% of oral malignancies are squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Tobacco smoking is considered as the most important causative agent for SCC. Despite aggressive and multidisciplinary treatment approaches, there has been no significant improvement in 5-year survival over the past 20 years. Several prognostic and predictive clinical, pathological...
